‘The X Factor’ UK: Latest controversy over Saara Aalto’s supposed Finnish votes

Saara -It wouldn’t be “The X Factor” without some sort of controversy, right? Well, this one is particularly interesting, mostly because it is dealing with elements of the voting system that could actually impact the vote itself.

According to The Sun, the show’s bosses are investigating claims that fans of Saara Aalto’s in her home country of Finland are determining whether or not foreign votes designed as coming from the UK are giving her an extra edge in the competition, one that goes against the rules that votes are specifically meant to be from the British public. Here’s what one source in particular had to say about the situation:

“The app doesn’t say if you are voting from the UK so it’s hard to tell what is happening here. Saara was in the bottom two early in the competition but has now gone straight to being the favorite. Nobody is saying she hasn’t got a brilliant voice and that is why the judges have kept her in the show — because of her performances.

“But it does beg the question of how many votes from Finland are getting through when it’s just supposed to be people in this country.”

A spokesperson for the show claimed that there is “no evidence” that Finnish votes are entering the system and are impacting the end result, but they are monitoring the situation.

Ultimately, the truth about this particular story from our vantage point is that it is really a no-win situation. If it turns out that these votes are coming from people in Finland, it messes with the entire course of the season. However, if not, it could unfairly turn some people away from Saara due to perception that her fans have been skirting the rules.

The sad thing is that we’re writing this article from America, a place chock full of false voting allegations. We thought a singing show would be free from this sort of drama, but alas…
