On ‘NCIS’ season 14 and cleaning up the rumor streets

NCIS -

Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves an epidemic! Specifically, it’s an epidemic known as “stories coming to you out of thin air.”

Some of the latest ones we’re here to debunk this evening revolve around “NCIS,” and some rather curious (to say the least) rumors revolving around the future of the show.

Let’s start with this one, given that we consider it to be perhaps the strangest one of all: That the show is getting canceled at some point in the future. How in the world is that going to happen? This is a show that was already renewed for a season 15, which just goes to show you further evidence that it’s going anywhere and most of these rumors were simply pulled out of thin air for the sake of getting traffic.

The only evidence of the show struggling at all is a noticeable ratings drop; it is averaging a 1.9 rating, which is down around 14% from the season 13 average. Yet, a 1.9 rating is still better than the majority of the rest of CBS’ scripted dramas at present. As a matter of fact, it’s still their most-watched drama in both this and total viewers. Those are the facts, and while shows this late in their run can be pricey, this is a product with another year and a half to go, at the very earliest.

As for some other non-news, Mark Harmon is not departing the show at present, despite any rumors that are out there. He also is on a two-year deal that will expire at the end of season 15, so unless he does something similar to Patrick Dempsey and leaves early, that’s not going to happen. Harmon has added reason to be invested, given he is an executive producer on both this series and “NCIS: New Orleans.”

Hopefully, that makes many of you breathe easier. If there is anything to report that is factual in nature, we’ll have it for you here.
