‘The Flash’ season 3 winter finale: Going beyond Flashpoint

Flash

Through the vast majority of “The Flash” season 3 to date, what was visible were a wide array of different instances of Flashpoint causing chaos. It was responsible for what transpired to Cisco’s brother Dante, with Caitlin and her powers, and even with Iris and Joe West’s relationship. Barry Allen proceeded to beat himself up to extreme levels over what he did, but it does appear as though he is starting to work his way through some of the guilt he is suffering from here.

Moving into the winter finale, the show wants to keep everyone on their toes, judging from what executive producer / showrunner Andrew Kreisberg teased in a new story via TVLine about the episode:

“The midseason finale (airing Dec. 6) kind of creates a new problem for our heroes that they weren’t anticipating, something that they’ve never faced before … It’s so big, we’re actually considering changing the saga sell from talking about Flashpoint to talking about that, because that’s really what’s driving the episodes for the rest of the season.”

What could this something be? It’s not an unreasonable guess to think that it has to do with Savitar, our mysterious Big Bad who appears to be using Doctor Alchemy as a tool in which to bring back his true power to the world. Julian Albert is, at the very least, under the character’s control at present. It’s possible that this will change, but answers won’t be handed out until the winter finale airs on Tuesday — if not much later.

The one potential silver lining to this wait is the wonderful week of programming for The CW in the superhero realm. The four-part crossover just concluded, and while not perfect, it may be the greatest superhero event to ever grace television.
