When will NBC start handing out new ‘Chicago PD’ – ‘Law & Order: SVU’ details?

Law & Order: SVU logoOnce again tonight, we have to beat the same, sad drum: There is no new episode of either “Chicago PD” or “Law & Order: SVU,” and there will not be another new episode of either series until we roll around to January of next year. As for the reasoning behind this, it really is so simple as the fact NBC’s got so many other special events scheduled over the next few weeks that there’s no need to throw an episode up at some point and confuse people. If you tell people “the first week of January,” then some of those people can come back and watch then without facing any sort of confusion regarding air dates / coming on one week and then not coming on the next.

One of the other luxuries that comes with a January debut (the third is the start of a new “Chicago PD”-related event, while the fourth will be the return of “SVU” for new episodes) is that you’ll get a chance to see several consecutive episodes without any odd scheduling quirks. They’ll air at a time when there is less going on, and they should be a distraction from the pile of snow sitting outside if you’re watching in the northern part of the country. (If you’re in the south … well, it’s still gotta be pretty cold in some places!)

So in getting back to the title, the next bit of information we’re going to have here on the site are details in the forms of press releases about the winter premieres. So when will that be? Think along the lines of a couple of weeks from now most likely. This is information that NBC probably wants out into the universe before the holidays, and typically we tend to get synopses a few weeks before the featured episodes air.

As for what we know to be coming up, “SVU” has the much-anticipated “Unstoppable” on the docket at some point, which may be even more controversial now that Donald Trump is the President-elect. Meanwhile, “Chicago PD” will be featuring the debut of Nick Wechsler soon, and will do its best to move on following the departure of Jon Seda’s Antonio over to “Chicago Justice.”

On the “Chicago Justice” front, rest assured that we’ll be sharing many interviews and teasers from our set visit earlier this fall when we get a little bit closer to those episodes airing. (Photo: NBC.)
