Ratings Progress Report: Will ‘Quantico’ season 2 move help season 3 renewal odds?

Alex -Going into its first season, ABC marketed “Quantico” as though this show was going to be almost their new “Scandal” or “How to Get Away with Murder.” While it did not have the participation of Shonda Rhimes, it was billed as having many of the same exact qualities that made those shows so pop-culture-worthy: Twists, turns, a breakout star, and also a diverse and interesting cast.

For whatever reason, though, the show hasn’t quite lived up to much of the hype in the ratings. It started solid, but since that point it’s slid in the midst of some mixed reviews. The loyal fan base is till there, but at the same time, are they going to be able to carry the show all the way to a third season? In the midst of a move to Monday, one that we imagine is meant to help spice up the show’s ratings, we’re going to analyze that further in our latest Ratings Progress Report series.

The good news – Relative consistency. Over the past six weeks that the show’s been on the air, we’ve seen it average anywhere from a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic all the way up to a 0.8. While that’s not a great rating, at least you can say that the show doesn’t have an essence of unpredictability present there. You know what you’re going to be getting from it, and there’s something to this that may be rather comforting.

Also, ABC’s not exactly having the best year given that they’ve also got “Conviction,” “Notorious,” “Secrets and Lies,” and “Agents of SHIELD” in the club of low-rated drama series. Odds are that they’re not going to cancel all five of these shows and one of them will find a way to live on.

The bad news – The comparisons year-to-year so far are really bad. The show’s averaging just under a 0.8 rating so far this season, and that’s a massive drop of 40% from where it was throughout season 1. Given that we haven’t even gotten to the second half of the season, where ratings tend to be slightly lower, there is a certain cause for concern present there.

If you think “Quantico” should be renewed for another season, be sure to let us know in the attached poll!
