‘The X Factor’ UK: Ryan Lawrie suggests Honey G merely a ‘character’
Ever since she first debuted on “The X Factor,” one of the more common comments about Honey G was the suggestion that the rapper could actually be some sort of character, done up for the sake of a laugh or providing entertainment to the show. We’ve definitely felt that way ourselves, mostly because of how she performs, the nature of many of her performances, and also her odd sense of style. Much of it feels very dated and over-the-top, almost like someone who’s in the process of doing some sort of comedy character.
Speaking in a new interview with “This Morning,” one of Honey G’s fellow contestants seems to feel the same way. Ryan Lawrie, who was just eliminated on this past episode of the show, compared her to comedy character Keith Lemon in terms of how she differs from who she likely is on the outside world:
“I feel like…like that’s a character that she portrays … I didn’t see her a lot [inside the X Factor house], she goes in her room and rehearses a lot. I still feel like there’s two sides to her, it’s like a split personality kind of thing.”
Well, should we at least be happy that she is rehearsing so much? Everything we’ve heard in the press so far suggests that she’s adopted a very different personality from what we’ve seen on the show so far. At the same time, we don’t really think that it matters all that much if she’s playing a character or not. People have the ability to vote for her, and while that does still meant that the judges can vote to keep her, there will come a point this season where they will not be able to anymore.
