‘Westworld’ episode 9 preview: Dolores, Bernard connect with their past
The first season of “Westworld” is starting to near the end of the road, and given the series’ penchant for revelations and surprises, we have to project that this is the most-likely forecast now. We’re still reeling from the news that Bernard is not quite who we thought that he was, so who knows what else the show has in store for us?
All we can tell you for now is that the next new episode of the series on HBO carries with it the title of “The Well-Tempered Clavier” — and for those who don’t know, a clavier is a sort of keyboard instrument with strings. A harpsichord is a great example of it.
One other interesting note about the episode is that it’s being directed by the excellent Michelle MacLaren, one of our favorite directors of television out there. She’s worked on “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead,” “The Leftovers,” and “Breaking Bad” — in other words, she really can pick and choose where she wants to go and what she wants to do at this point in her career.
Synopsis – “Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) reconnect with their pasts; Maeve (Thandie Newton) makes a bold proposition to Hector (Rodrigo Santoro); Teddy (James Marsden) finds enlightenment, at a price.”
This is more or less the perfect synopsis for this show; it makes it clear that there will be bold moves and sacrifices, but says nothing about the repercussions. Given where we are riht now in the series, we have to imagine that they will be sweeping.
Promo – There’s a lot of pain in here, and there are also many questions about the Maze when it comes to intention. Who’s right or wrong for it? Does it really matter? Purpose and role started off as themes of the series, and that’s picking up exponentially as we near the finale.
