‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’ finale ratings steady, tops ‘Hotel’ in demo, total viewers
While we know that FX doesn’t itself look only at live+same day ratings in order to gauge the success of their series, it’s still the primary measure that we look at when it comes to determining the success or failure of a given show. For us, it’s important in terms of being able to cross-compare easily between one season of a show and another; also, some networks look primarily at live ratings as the best way to determine whether or not a show stays or goes.
Now, let’s look at the numbers for the “American Horror Story: Roanoke” finale. This final episode drew a 1.3 rating in total in the key 18-49 demographic, and to go along with that, 2.45 million viewers tuned in. Both of these mark incremental improvements over the previous network, but not in any sort of discernible fashion.
The bigger calling card that the series has at the moment is that for the first time in a while, this season of the show actually marked a ratings improvement in both measures over the one that came before it. In the demo, “Roanoke” improved over “Hotel” by more than 5%; in total viewers, the improvement was much else substantial at just over 1%. Yet, an improvement is an improvement, and we know that this one does have some caveats. For one, there were only 10 episodes this season as opposed to 12, and given that this show does tend to fall over the course of a given season, this helped out the average. The same goes for not having episodes airing leading into the new year.
FX already renewed “American Horror Story” for a seventh season, and that one is going to air come the fall of 2017.
