‘Empire’ season 3 spoilers: Cookie confronts her past; an awkward dinner date
The third season of “Empire” to date’s been a most eventful one, though one of the most intriguing aspects of it through all of the chaos has to be the relationship between Cookie Lyon and Angelo DuBois. He’s such an interesting change-of-pace from who we’ve seen her around in Lucious, and there’s also just something so entertaining and delicious that stems from watching Lucious react to the idea of the two of them together. Clearly, he’s not the biggest fan in the world of the pair, and that’s a part of what makes the show fun. It’s always nice to see interesting character foils, especially when they’re all strong characters who cause a lot of conflict when the worlds do collide.
Before the month of November ends on the upcoming episode “What We May Be” (airing on the 30th), we’re going to get a chance to see the Cookie – Angelo relationship blossom further courtesy of a family dinner where his mother turns up. Given her own history, and history of giving some rather-strong opinions, we figure that this one will be fun at times. At others, we figure that we could end up revisiting some painful times for the character as she looks back at a relationship in her past that caused her a significant amount of turmoil.
The synopsis below offers up a little more information on what you can expect to see here:
“Cookie looks to Candace for tips on how to plan an elaborate family dinner that will impress Angelo’s mother, Diane (guest star Phylicia Rashad). Meanwhile, old home videos cause Cookie to face secrets about her relationship with her father that she had tried to hide from her kids, and Andre organizes an unlikely duet.”
