‘Shameless’ season 7, episode 7 video: Cameron Monaghan on Ian and Trevor

There is yet another new episode of “Shameless” coming to Showtime this weekend, and this one in particular could prove itself to be a rather big one for Ian as he continues his journey to try and find himself. The journey’s led him for the time being to Trevor (Elliot Fletcher), and he’s trying to do his part to figure out more about himself through this relationship.

As Cameron Monaghan explains in the video below, this is a story that will explore such themes as sexual identity and fluidity, as Trevor is transgender as a result of that, there are questions that Ian still has about it. We imagine that this is true-to-life in some ways, but we of course hope that the discussion’s handled both respectfully, while still being true to the fabric of the show, which can at times be somewhat cynical and all over the place.

We know that this is a big year for Ian, given not only what he went through at the start of this season, but also what he’ll be going through as we get closer to the end of the season with Mickey’s eventual return. That presumably doesn’t bode too well for the immediate future of Ian and Trevor.

One other thing that we can say is that this is very much a big year for Fletcher, given that he did previous appear in both “Faking It” and “The Fosters” leading up to this show. Many of these roles have touched on similar themes for his characters, but “Shameless” certainly has its own tone and unique attitude.
