Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0’ ties season high; ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Dr. Ken’ on the rise

CBS LogoThere isn’t too much necessarily to write home about today in the ratings, mostly because it feels like “steady as she goes” really should be the motto for what we’re bringing to the table. The majority of the shows had numbers that were roughly the same as the week before, but there were a few exceptions here and there.

Let’s begin here with “Hawaii Five-0,” which is in our mind really the biggest success story of the entire season, and it’s a really surprising one. We weren’t sure we would ever see this show generate the sort of numbers that is now ever again, but last night we saw it tie its premiere rating with a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic. As a whole this season is up almost 10% over season 6, and it was at this point last year we were questioning its future more. Now, we feel like an eighth season is imminent.

If you missed it, we posted a story last night in which executive producer Peter M. Lenkov stated that he would potentially continue the show even after star Alex O’Loughlin were to leave following the eighth season. We’ve got some more thoughts on that, which we’ll share in the days ahead.

Also worth noting was that “Blue Bloods” last night drew a 1.3 rating for a huge episode featuring Jamie and Eddie getting closer to being an item. This is probably the first time we can remember where “Shark Tank” (1.2) was actually #3 on the night; at this point a couple of years ago, it was blowing everyone out of the water.

The only other notable change week-to-week is “Dr. Ken” improving to a 0.9 rating. This is one of those shows where it’s almost impossible to gauge what ABC will do with it; while it’s not generating huge numbers, at the same time it’s fairly consistent and expectations aren’t huge for Friday nights.
