‘@midnight’ live election special coming with Ronald Funches, Whitney Cummings, Paul F. Thomkings
In this election environment, networks everywhere are about live programming, especially within the comedy realm. Shows like “@midnight” typically tape in the afternoon, so in doing so, they would miss out on the opportunity to do some late-breaking news.
With that in mind, things are a little bit exciting when it comes to the Comedy Central series tonight hosted by Chris Hardwick. It’s going to start airing beginning at 12:00 a.m. Eastern time (that may seem obvious, but it’s aired at 11:30 p.m. recently following the cancellation of “The Nightly Show”), and it’s going to feature a really fantastic panel of comedians.
First and foremost, you’ve got multi-time champion and former “Undateable” star Ron Funches, which is exciting to us given that he is one of our personal favorite comedians working today. He’s a naturally-funny guy, and regardless of whatever happens today, we’ve got a feeling that he will help to be able to put people at ease.
Meanwhile, you’ve also got another funny person in Whitney Cummings, who has an interesting tangential connection to “Undateable” in that she previously starred on “Whitney” with Chris D’Elia, one of the stars of the now-canceled NBC series.
Finally, we’re turning over to another frequent “@midnight” attendee in Paul F. Tompkins, who may be our fashion spirit animal. He also just so happens to be one of the voice actors behind “BoJack Horseman,” one of our favorite shows of any genre on television. Overall, a really great lineup, and one that could serve as a nice little distraction.
What’s also interesting here is what happens in the event that the election results are not finalized until this point. That’s unlikely (it would take a pretty close vote), but it is still something that is worth watching as we get further and further into the night. (Photo: Comedy Central.)
