‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8, episode 4 preview: A key Ian Somerhalder story in ‘An Eternity of Misery’
Tonight, “The Vampire Diaries” is bringing you a story that will feature what are many ways next moves following some of the big reveals regarding our Big Bad Sybil, and then also Stefan figuring out what is next when it comes to his relationship with Caroline. The two may be engaged, but we’re only a small percentage of the way into the final season. This is a story with many permutations, and some of them are going to alternate between good and bad.
Given that next week’s new episode carries with it the title of “An Eternity of Misery,” it’s hard to necessarily say that we are left feeling optimistic by what is coming up. Damon’s going to be on a dangerous mission in the south, Stefan and Alaric are going to try to use their new-found advantage to their benefit, and for those of you who love Matt Donovan, the show has a fascinating way in which they are getting him back involved in the action.
Synopsis – “Tasked with finding a mysterious artifact, Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) latest mission takes him to Texas where a violent run-in with Peter Maxwell (guest star Joel Gretsch) leads to a surprising revelation. Meanwhile, after gaining the upper hand in their fight to save Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Alaric (Matt Davis) team up and uncover the origins of the mysterious force they’re up against. Finally, Matt (Zach Roerig) returns to the fray after his past and present collide in an unexpected way.”
It feels for now mostly coincidental that only the men on the show are mentioned here, but given how many of them served as secondary characters during various parts of the show, it’s pleasing to see them all have this opportunity to shine and stand out. Hopefully, this episode will offer up a source of some answers, and if not solace, a hope for it down the line.
Promo – We’ve got it for you below, and this makes it clear that family drama is going to be center stage. We admire Stefan doing everything that he can in order to help him, but is it possible? Is Damon too far gone? These are both valuable questions worth asking.
