‘Gotham’ season 3, episode 7 video: Robin Lord Taylor, Cory Michael Smith on Oswald, Nygma

Earlier this season, we questioned whether or not the next big romantic power-couple on “Gotham” could be Edward Nygma and Oswald Cobblepot. The two do have a striking connection, and have so much more in common than many couples do in real life. Both have a history of being broken people, are unable to relate to others, and see some of themselves in each other. Both are cunning and desperate to do whatever they can in order to find power.

For the Penguin, this interest does seem to turn into romantic feelings. In the video below, Robin Lord Taylor discusses how Oswald having someone in his life like Nygma makes it fairly easy for him to develop a romantic affection for him. This in turn leads to him wanting to make a move.

Unfortunately, the problem here comes in the form of Isabella, a woman with a striking resemblance to Nygma’s former love Kris Kringle. Cory Michael Smith here explains how this is a reminder of a normal life that Edward could have had under different circumstances, and it separates him somewhat from Oswald. As you would imagine, the Penguin is not going to be too thrilled with all of that, and moving forward, he will do everything that he can in order to split Ed and Isabella up.

Ultimately, we don’t exactly see all of this ending well. Even if Oswald is able to separate Ed from his new love, at the same time Ed’s pretty smart and could easily realize what’s been done. In turn, we only imagine this causing a deeper rift between the two parties as they start to move further into the season.
