‘Shiptober: Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ stage Caroline – Stefan wedding before series finale?

Mrs. Carter: Will Steroline take the next step sooner rather than later?

There is certainly something a little bit different happening when it comes to pace on “The Vampire Diaries” season 8 at the moment. For much of the past couple of seasons, the show took an extremely slow approach when it comes to bringing Caroline and Stefan together. Maybe they didn’t feel like there was any reason to hurry, or maybe they hadn’t plotted out the endgame yet. Either way, it’s in stark contrast to the pacing so far this season, as we’ve seen the characters move in together and get engaged basically within the span of the past two episodes. Could this mean that the wedding is coming right away? It may be tempting to say that, but we imagine that the show will be a tad more patient with that. We just feel like the show could justify the quick engagement at this point because they’ve known each other for so long.

With this wedding, the big question we wonder is when the show will go through with it — and there’s a case to be made for it happening before the series finale, and then having it happen in said episode.

The case for a wedding before the finale – We would like to see a little bit of what a “normal” life could look like for these two as a married couple, and we also don’t want to see the wedding rushed. Given that there’ll probably be about eight or nine other things that need to be attended to in the finale, this would free up some time both for them to have a great ceremony and for some other stories to grow and develop. Also, can you imagine the number of guest stars you could incorporate into this? It could be a nice way to get a lot of familiar faces back.

The case for waiting until the finale – The biggest reason to have it happen then is if you want to make the wedding the centerpiece of the story, and also if you want to figure out a way to get Nina Dobrev back and present as Elena Gilbert — we still wanna believe there is a way that doesn’t involve killing off Bonnie. Also, maybe you want to spend your time until then focusing on other traditions before the ceremony. We’re open to the idea, at least so long as it doesn’t just seem like blink-and-you’ll miss it moment.
