‘The X Factor’ UK: Laughing at the latest Honey G – ‘fix’ rumors

X factor -

Why do so many people out there continue to proclaim that “The X Factor” is rigged in some way for Honey G to go far or even win? It’s one of the strangest allegations in the history of the show, and it’s one that has a surprising amount of weight to it for many of the viewers.

What’s the reason for that? A whole lot of it stems from the fact that they cannot comprehend that somehow, the female rapper is still in the competition … and understandably so. She’s not popular with most of social media, her performances are questionable at best, and there is little reason to believe that she could ever improve as time goes on.

So why is she still there? Much of that stems from the sole fact that there are so many other contestants who are somewhat forgettable. Do you see many people talking about Ryan Lawrie and Four of Diamonds? Both are nice, but at the same time neither has any edge that makes them stand out. You need personality and fire to be a potential winner for this show, or at the very least you need a ton of promotion. This is what seemed to help Louisa Johnson, who was supremely talented, but relatively quiet, on the show last year.

The reality here (at least in our mind) is that unless there is some huge school of people out there voting ironically, Honey G’s metaphorical goose will be cooked by around the time we make it to the top 6. She has the same ceiling as a Rylan Clark or a Stevie Ritchie did in the competition. She makes it that far because of memorability, and not because of any rigging. If you think that ITV cares so much about a silly singing-competition show that they are willing to destroy their entire reputation over it – think again.

We’ll be back soon with a full review of tonight’s episode. Before that, be sure to head over here to see where we ranked the remaining contestants! (Photo: ITV.)
