‘Poldark’ season 3 still happening; ignore ‘cancellation’ talk rumors after Ross – Elizabeth scene
While we’re used to seeing rather ridiculous internet rumors at this point (they’ve become a key fabric in this modern-day era), the one about “Poldark” and its future right now has to be one of the strangest.
What we’re talking about here at present are some rather-odd rumors suggesting that the BBC series could be canceled after two seasons, as opposed to moving forward into a third batch of episodes set to air next year. This is coming on the heels of one of the show’s most controversial episodes to date, one that featured the title character of Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) having sex with Elizabeth (Heida Reed) in a way that felt like many viewers to rape given how she at first said “no” to his advances only to give in later on in the encounter.
Do we think that the show has some work to do winning some viewers over after such a scene? Sure, but at the same time we’re not talking about a scene that likely blindsided any longtime fans of the source material. This is something that many people knew was coming for some time, and there were claims in advance that it would be toned down for the new show. (It was, at least to a certain extent.) We do think the reaction to said scene was probably more dramatic than what many expected.
Yet, at the same time filming is already underway on season 3, and with the show continuing to get solid ratings, there is no reason to end it. The biggest test will be seeing how many people tune in Sunday, the first episode after said scene aired. That will be the biggest test of what the true audience size really is. It’s hard to imagine viewing Ross the same way, but for now we presume that the show must in fact go on.

all the complainers have obviously NOT read the books….they should do…..and
then they’ll know what it was about…..

Personally I haven’t read the books and like to think of the show as its own independent thing. Still, I do think it’s best to let the viewers dictate the show’s long-term future rather than give into the pressures of complaints. I certainly like Ross a lot less than I did before the scene, but I’m willing to see the story through.

Good Lord it was never rape, she never once said no. All she said was he would not dare ….. she was a willing participant the whole time. One does not lie about with their rapist after the deed, and want to know when he is coming back. Ridiculous. This reeks of ITV interference. And rape which this was not, has been a mainstay of most adult dramas for years. The moral high horse is a bit much. As for Ross, yes he has some making up too do. But then it would not be much of a story if all was rainbows and unicorns, would it. And in the book it was never called rape either, the author left that up to the reader.
