‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: What Four of Diamonds, Gifty Louise, Emily Middlemas will perform
This weekend, it’s Divas Week on “The X Factor,” and that means to us that more than anything, we’re getting the chance to see the remaining acts this season take on some big songs. This is a really challenge theme for a lot of different reasons. We’ve got a feeling that for some, this will be a chance to really rise to the occasion and show precisely what they are capable of. However, at this same time for others this could prove to be incredibly frustrating. Not everyone has the vocal ability to take on all of these songs, and that’s not meant to be a slam in any way: They are just all supremely challenging and present a lot of problems.
Below, you can see the full list of songs, coupled of course with our brief thoughts on each choice. Note that these are still subject to change.
Matt Terry: Mariah Carey – I’ll Be There – No qualms with the choice here for Matt. Mariah’s tough, but he’s shown to have the vocal ability to be able to tackle it.
Ryan Lawrie: Adele – Rolling in The Deep – Good luck, Ryan. This is a huge song, and we’re not sure he has the voice.
Emily Middlemas: Whitney Houston – How Will I Know – This would sound great as an acoustic, intimate performance. We’re hoping to see Emily go back in that direction a little more than we’ve seen as of late.
Sam Lavery: Michael Jackson – Earth Song – We’re honestly not a big fan of this song versus everything else in Michael’s catalog. It doesn’t really have a musical hook.
Gifty Louise: Sam Smith – Lay Me Down – Basically, you can pick almost anything in Sam’s music history and you’ll be fine.
Honey G: Vanilla Ice / Queen – Ice, Ice Baby/Under Pressure – We’re not sure how Vanilla Ice qualifies as a “diva” song, but for Honey G these are more like guidelines than rules.
Relley C: Aretha Franklin – Natural Woman – Maybe you can proclaim that this is a tad predictable, but we do think Relley’s going to kill with it.
Saara Aalto: Bjork – Oh So Quiet – Admittedly, we’re not a huge Bjork fan; we don’t even know this song.
5 After Midnight: Amy Winehouse – Valerie – Yay, somebody’s doing a song that is upbeat and fun!
Four of Diamonds: Lady Marmalade/Bang Bang – May, Pink / Lil’ Kim, Jessie J, Arianna Grande – This also should be a good time; there’s a lot of vocal firepower in these songs that should allow them to show off their talent.
