‘Westworld’: Why Anthony Hopkins is not watching — or any TV, for that matter

Over the course of the past two weeks, audiences have had an opportunity to dive further into “Westworld,” and by and large, we feel like the reception’s been positive. This is a series that has brought quite a few different elements to the table, whether it be wonderful writing, beautiful special effects, or provacative scenes. It’s the sort of show that many people out there would want to watch.

So why isn’t Sir Anthony Hopkins? It doesn’t have anything to do with the HBO show, let’s just put it that way; it also doesn’t seem to have much to do with him not wanting to watch his own work, which is something that Andrew Lincoln has cited as a reason why he does not watch “The Walking Dead.” Rather, the actor recently said per the New Zealand Herald that he just doesn’t find much enjoyment in watching television:

“I have my own Mickey Mouse theories that we have alienated ourselves in the world watching television all the time … We get all our information from that. So I stopped watching it. I don’t watch it, I don’t want to know”

Basically, if everyone watched TV the way that Hopkins does, we’d be out of a job. We understand his sentiment, but at the same time we do think there are some merits to checking out shows that facilitate discussion and conversation like this. He did praise the show and HBO in the interview, but admitted that some of the scenes were filmed so long ago that he doesn’t even remember all of them. That may be a symptom of the show’s lengthy production cycle.

“Westworld” is airing the third episode of its first season on the network Sunday night; if you want to prefer for this even further, be sure to head over here to see our most recent review.
