“Quantico” is a universe where bad things have a tendency to happen — and often. Take a look back at what happened to Simon during the first season, or to provide a more recent example, what transpired at the end of the premiere this season with the First Lady. While sometimes there is such a thing as making too big a move, we appreciate that this is a show trying risks and looking to push the envelope. At the end of the day, it’s preferable than one that just stays the course and never does anything.
What we’ve got for you below is a pretty substantial tease from showrunner Josh Safran to Entertainment Weekly, which certainly gives us a pretty good sense as to something horrible coming for at least one major character on the show:
“Grievous bodily harm comes to one of our major characters in the first third of the season … I’m shocked at what we’ve pulled off. I mean, I really thought for sure we had gone too far, but I guess we didn’t.”
So who could be in danger? Almost anyone really, other than of course Alex since it’s hard to imagine the show without her. The big risk in taking a prominent character out of the fold is that you may cause the problem where your cast is missing something that damages the chemistry, or that there are not enough favorites left for people to root for. We do think that the show can navigate these problems, so the biggest risk we see with this is rather simple: Finding a way to make the death meaningful, and not just one for shock value. This is an issue many shows face on a near-constant basis when they make this sort of move.
