‘Shiptober: Could ‘Longmire’ season 6 bring Walt, Vic closer together?

Mrs. Carter: Is there hope at all anymore for Walt and Vic on “Longmire“?

When Netflix was first out promoting the fifth season prior to its release last month, one of the larger questions associated with it was if this was going to be the season that Walt and Vic (played by Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff), finally got together. There is certainly a chemistry there between these two, and it is also well-documented precisely how Vic feels about him. Unfortunately for Vic, it feels like she routinely doesn’t get the attention she wants or deserves from him. What little time he had for romance this season, he fixated more on Donna. For now, it appears that this relationship is stable — we did not expect it to last all of season 5, but it did.

So where could the two of them go in season 6? That is what we are setting out to try and answer in the latest edition of our CarterMatt ‘Shiptober article series. (We should note here that “Longmire” is yet to be renewed, but we’re optimistic; also, the relationship discussion is only speculation, so don’t treat anything in here as fact.)

The case for Walt and Vic – Given that Ally Walker has only appeared in a handful of episodes for the show, we admittedly don’t have the same attachment for Donna and Walt as we do Walt and Vic. That’s not to say that Donna and Walt lack desirable qualities together, but the established relationship between Walt and Vic goes back five years. Also, from a writing point of view there are so many more interesting layers that could come out of a relationship with Walt and Vic, whether it be the departmental headaches of Walt getting involved with someone who works under him (a theme we saw discussed during the deposition this season) to also their personal conflicts crossing over to the workplace. This seems to be the relationship that would allow for optimal enjoyment from many different angles.

The case working against them – For one, both seem to have other relationships. Walt has Donna, and Vic could have Travis were she willing to commit to him. He’s established himself as a very nice guy who is very supportive of her pregnancy. We don’t know if that would be a roadblock or not in a Walt / Vic relationship since they haven’t discussed it yet; we certainly think Walt could be a loving father (he’s shown that he can be), but there are conversations that would need to be had.

Ultimately, we just don’t know if this is something the writers have in the cards for the two, but we’d love to see it explored further. Do you want to see Walt and Vic together this coming season on “Longmire,” provided that we get one? Share in the attached poll!
