TV Quick Hits: ‘Stitchers’ renewed for season 3; ‘The Punisher’ spoilers; Taran Killam comedy adds to roster

StitchersLet us begin this edition of TV Quick Hits with the sort of news that always has us the most excited; after all, we’re talking renewal news!

During a Facebook Live broadcast today, “Stitchers” stars Emma Ishta and Kyle Harris officially revealed that the series is going to be coming back for a third season. This news certainly comes at a time when Freeform as a network is likely looking for more stability than ever before, no matter how it comes to them. After all, just remember for a moment here that “Pretty Little Liars” and “Switched at Birth,” which are both shows that for many years more or less defined the network’s programming, are both coming to a close.

As for some other news from the day…

Netflix confirms “The Punisher” casting – Some time ago, it was first announced that Ben Barnes would be joining the upcoming Netflix spin-off to “Daredevil,” and we now know the role: He will be playing Frank Castle’s longtime friend Billy Russo, a guy who also runs a private military organization known as Anvil. When you think about that, even for a split second, it suddenly is clear just how valuable he is.

Taran Killam, Jim Belushi team up – In the wake of his departure from “Saturday Night Live,” we heard recently that Taran was going to star in “Mating,” an upcoming Showtime comedy in which he will play a guy who is trying to adapt once more to the dating pool after many years away from it. Today, we’ve also learned that Jim Belushi (“According to Jim”) will be stepping in to play the part of his father.

While we don’t know much more about the series, knowing that Taran is in it, and it’s airing on one of the best networks out there, is enough for there to be at least marginal levels of excitement, if not even more.
