TV Quick Hits: ’24: Legacy’ casting scoop; Julianne Hough on ‘Speechless’; ‘Salem’ season 3 video

While “24: Legacy” may not be coming to Fox with new episodes until the new year, it’s never too early to start the anticipation — and with that, we’re here with some of the earliest casting news.

According to a report from Variety, Veronica Cartwright (“Alien”) will be joining the reboot of the franchise in the role of Margaret Donovan, the mother of Senator John Donovan (Jimmy Smits) and by association the mother-in-law of Miranda Otto’s Rebecca Ingram, the former head of the CTU. She is described as being tough, formidable, and a woman accustomed to getting what she wants no matter the effort required.

If you’ve been out of the loop, the series will primarily follow a new lead in Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins), a military hero who arrives home to America and finds new trouble at his (metaphorical) door.

As for some other news from the day…

Julianne Hough to appear on “Speechless” – Sources confirm that the “Dancing with the Stars” judge and singer will appear on an upcoming episode as Miss Bloom, a choir teacher who ends up working with JJ (Micah Fowler) on an upcoming episode. If you have not seen “Speechless” just yet, we highly recommend it given that it is the perfect mix of comedy and charm, and a cut above most other family comedies out there.

“Salem” season 3 preview – In preparation for the show’s return to WGN America on November 2, and timed to correspond with New York Comic-Con, the video gives you insight from the cast and crew into what may be the most intense (and entertaining) season to date.
