‘Doctor Who’ alum Christopher Eccleston wishes he’d had opportunity to do more with role
Does Christopher Eccleston regret leaving “Doctor Who“? We’ve seen that quote out there following some comments that the actor (currently of “The Leftovers”) made about the role per Drive in Melbourne, but we feel like ultimately, that claim is a little bit misleading. We don’t ultimately think that he regrets the choice given that it was disagreements with production over the role that caused him to depart. However, at the same exact time he does wish he had more of an opportunity to play the part.
For a little bit more context on that, you don’t have to look any further than the quote below:
“It was kind of tragic for me, that I didn’t play him for longer. He’s a beautiful character and I have a great deal of professional pride and had I done a second season, there would have been a marked improvement in my performance. I was learning new skills, in terms of playing light comedy. I was not known for light comedy and, again, production did not allow for that.”
It remains unfortunate that the end of the series proved to be acrimonious for him, given that we would have enjoyed getting to see what more he could have done with the role. Alas, it was not to be, but at least he has gone on to do other things and some other great men have taken on the role of The Doctor with pride, whether it be David Tennant, Matt Smith, and now Peter Capaldi. He’ll be starring once more in the upcoming tenth season of the revived show.
