Eddie Murphy shows off tremendous Tracy Morgan impression on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
While the majority of late-night appearances are not exactly newsworthy, there is something about seeing Eddie Murphy on a late-night show that is so exciting. He’s been away from the public eye for the past couple of years, and arguably his latest major appearance was back during the “Saturday Night Live” 40th Anniversary Special. With the career that he’s had, we definitely get why he doesn’t feel the need to do too many promotional appearances.
Well, Murphy does have a new film coming out in “My Church” that is getting some awards buzz, and he did make an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote it — one that included a really fun impersonation of Tracy Morgan as Eddie tells the story about how he made his good friend laugh after his near-fatal accident. We never thought that we’d hear a story about Ballpark Franks being anywhere near this funny. Also, we do think that Kimmel is right when he says that Eddie has one of the best impressions of Tracy that he’s ever heard — and this is the sort of guy who almost everyone wants to impersonate.
We want to end this article by throwing something crazy out there: Murphy did appear on the “SNL” special, and he does have a new movie to promote. How incredible would it be if he was to host the season 42 premiere of the sketch show? The ratings would probably be enormous, and he in turn would give a chance to remind everyone beyond this impression precisely how funny he is.
Of course, we’re going to hold out hope for something to happen.
