Ratings: Did ‘Mistresses’ finale help season 5 odds? ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ finale rises

Last night, we weren’t exactly bullish on the odds of “Mistresses” coming back for another season, and after what we saw in the season 4 finale with Karen, it seems even harder to imagine that it can go forward. It’s been a while since it really felt like it held true to its original premise, and to go along with that further, it also feels like it’s been a while since the show had that true spirit of fun.

If there is a silver lining for fans hoping for a season 5 renewal, it may be this: The series drew in total a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its season 4 finale, which is a slight improvement on the night before and it matches roughly the finale one year ago.

Are there some caveats? Sure. For one, this show had the benefit of airing after “Bachelor in Paradise” most of the season, and the finale last night drew a 1.6 while the “After Paradise” show that followed had a 1.1. You can easily argue that this season had a more favorable timeslot.

Ultimately, though, the ball is in the court of ABC in order to determine the future of the series. For the time being, we figure that some of this could come down to if they have any other original programming coming up down the pipeline, and what sort of ideas are floating around out there for a potential season 5. We’re just not optimistic given that as a whole, ratings were down for this season by more than 15% in the demo.
