‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 spoilers: Michael Trevino set for return

Given how big a role Michael Trevino played through several seasons of “The Vampire Diaries,” it only seemed appropriate that he turned up at some point over the course of the final season.

Today, we are very much pleased to report that this is officially going to be happening. Per a new report from Entertainment Weekly, you are going to have a chance to see the actor back as Tyler Lockwood in the third episode of the upcoming season. Over the course of this, you will have opportunities to see him try to establish some sort of connection with Damon Salvatore in particular, who is reportedly going to be spiraling out of control in the wake of everything that has transpired over the past several episodes, the culmination of which being the finale with the vault.

Hopefully, this will not be the last time we see the Tyler character show up on the series, given that he always received the short end of the stick in terms of receiving an ending that he more or less deserved. Part of that may be due to Trevino exiting at a time in which more attention was on Nina Dobrev’s future, but we do think this character is worthy of more. He was the first major touchstone we had to werewolves in Mystic Falls, and his legacy in some ways extends across The CW. Hayley was close to him before joining “The Originals,” and his connection to Mason Lockwood brought in some ways Stephen Amell onto the show prior to him becoming the star of “Arrow.”
