‘Major Crimes’ season 5 spoilers: Latest casting reflects shocking developments
During Monday night’s new episode of “Major Crimes,” we saw one of the more violent shootouts that we’ve seen on the show over the years, one that ultimately ended up with a character being taken off the board: Russell Taylor, the Assistant Chief of Special Operations. He’s been around since the days of “The Closer,” and with the sake of nostalgia in mind, this is especially a touch character to see go.
With that being said, this is a world where the show has to do what it can to push things forward, and this is where a recent casting comes further into play. Remember the news that Camryn Manheim had signed up for a part on the show? Speaking to TVLine, show executive producer James Duff revealed that the actress is set to play a Deputy Chief of Operations, someone potentially in line to replace Taylor on the show. Meanwhile, another candidate could be none other than Captain Sharon Raydor. There is a third candidate, but they have yet to be cast.
Manheim will appear first in the upcoming 14th episode of the season, which is the first of the additional season 5 episodes that were ordered by TNT. Originally, the “White Lies” arc beginning last night was meant to be the end of the road for the season, which is probably one of many reasons why it was written in such an epic, devastating way.
We will have more on the next installment of “White Lies” as we get a little bit further into the week, but for now head over here to get some other news on “Major Crimes,” including recent reviews!

Whoever is going to fill the void, I hope it will be an interesting character, an adversary to Sharon Raydor. I especially love the character-driven elements of the show and Sharon is the most compelling one. Giving her a riveting story with somebody or something to cope with, makes it all the more interesting.
