‘American Gothic’ finale spoilers: How will the story end?

While “American Gothic” has been somewhat under-the-radar for CBS this summer, we do think that there are some loyal fans out there who are certainly curious to see how the murder case ends — and also the identity of the killer. Luckily, the promo below for the final two episodes airing Wednesday, entitled “Madame X” and “Whistler’s Mother,” suggests that you are going to get all the answers you are hoping to have. Also, it promises that the big killer reveal will “shock” you.

In addition to that tease, the synopsis for the two episodes gives you a little bit of a further sense as to what you can expect story-wise:

“With a killer taunting them, the Hawthornes look to the police for assistance, but Brady needs Garrett’s help to solve the case. Alison prepares for the election and is rocked by a shocking discovery about her family and the unexpected return of an old friend. Also, as the family gathers for Election Day, they attempt to identify the killer in their midst, but one of them won’t make it out alive.”

In looking at the future of “American Gothic” beyond this summer, it’s a little bit of an interesting case. The photo above clearly states that this is a “thirteen-part murder mystery,” so with that in mind there was never really any further plan in order to push the story further beyond the current batch of episodes. However, we do think that if the show drew big enough ratings, maybe we’d get a second season a la “American Crime” with something totally different. We’ll examine that a little closer to the finale, but given the present ratings, the odds of that happening here are not too great. The promo does claim it is the “season finale” (as opposed to series), so who knows?
