‘Supernatural’ season 12: An episode about Misha Collins’ Castiel is coming

CastielWe know that there are a large contingent of Castiel fans out there in the “Supernatural” family, and as a result of that, there’s probably plenty of celebration today. Why is that? Well, the oh-so-popular angel is getting some more time in the spotlight for the upcoming twelfth season.

Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, new co-showrunner Andrew Dabb made it perfectly clear that for this season as a whole, one of the big goals is to scale things down and focus on the characters we love, rather than presenting some huge overarching mythology as we’ve seen as of late:

“It’s about telling smaller stories that impact more of our characters … For example, this year, especially toward the middle of the season, we’re using Castiel in stand-alone episodes in a way that he hasn’t been used in a long time.”

For Misha Collins’ character in particular, episode 12 is one that should be circled on the calendar:

“[That episode is] very heavily about Castiel and the journey he’s been on, some things from his past that we’re not aware of are getting brought to light.”

We’re all about this, given that for the most part, we think this show thrives the most in the creative monster-of-the-week episode, where you can get a little bit of humor, a little bit of heart, and be reminded of the series’ early days. Cas has missed out on some of these stories for some time, given that his character in recent seasons has been tied more towards the larger story and not so much some of the individual stuff.

The new season of “Supernatural” will be premiering in a little over a month; rest assured, we’ll have further news as it comes out over at the link here.
