‘The X Factor’ UK: Who else has audition history?

On this past weekend, we saw the notable return of Emily Middlemas to “The X Factor” UK after being previously a part of the show years prior. However, what may be a surprise to some out there is that she is not the only contestant on the series this year with significant ties to the show’s past.

Due to some careful sleuthing from the folks over at The Sun, it has now been revealed that Rebekah Ryan audition for the show almost a full decade ago, and even had Louis Walsh as a mentor. Meanwhile, Caitlyn Vanbeck auditioned last year, and that is a little more bizarre given that Simon Cowell compared her to Kelly Clarkson when she had already done some performing for him on the show before. It wasn’t like Kelly, who performed for Simon the first time and was on her road to stardom soon after.

Here is what a representative for the show had to say about this talk to the website:

“Caitlyn auditioned last year and Rebekah in 2007, but their auditions never aired due to time constraints with the programme. Therefore, as viewers have never seen this audition, it was not referenced on the show.”

What the show rep says here does make a certain degree of sense, given that the majority of the people who watch this show are ones who turn it on for a little escapism on the weekends, and they aren’t devoted enough to keep a tally of former contestants. Unless you were extremely notable in some way, the series is not going to mention you. Sometimes, if you are extremely memorable and eliminated, the show simply won’t allow you to come back and go far.
