‘The X Factor’ UK: Honey G defends herself amidst ‘joke’ claims

X factor -

Every season, “The X Factor” has a few acts who come out on the stage and do something that is just a little bit different. For the season premiere this year, that act was very clearly a certain someone named Honey G. The “rapper” came out with a rendition of Missy Elliott’s “Work It” that, while not altogether proficient, was compelling and entertaining in its own right.

Can she end up winning? We don’t think so, but in the wake of her audition, she is doing what she can to convince people out there that she is the real deal, and is worthy of the attention that she is getting. Here is what she had to say on the subject recently per the Mirror:

“I wouldn’t consider myself as a novelty act. Just because I’m a rapper and I’m on X Factor? Just because I’m a rapper it doesn’t mean that I’m some kind of circus act. I’m real. I’m a genuine artist. So me coming into the competition is like a breakthrough. The judges need to wake up to that. This isn’t a joke. Nothing about me is like a joke act. Or a joke ting. It’s real, it’s serious. It’s about getting my music across and staying true to the game. I’m the real deal. I’m the realest chick. I’m the realest chick in the game right now. There are a lot of brilliant artists doing really good things but I can bring something new to the table.”

We’re going to have a chance to see a little bit more of what’s coming up for Honey G when we hit the next stage of the competition. We do still think that she’s going to have an uphill battle, though at the same time we have not seen what most of the talent is like in the Overs category just yet. Maybe she adds some musical diversity to the mix.
