‘America’s Got Talent’: Could Julia Scotti, Hara, The Passing Zone serve as wildcard act?
Following the events of this past “America’s Got Talent” results shows, we were introduced to the field of 21 remaining acts. Here is the problem: There are two more semifinal shows, and that is an odd number. Last season, the judges added a wildcard act to the ranks, and we assume that will be the case here once more. If they really wanted to they could add three more and raise the field to 24, but we’re not banking on that happening.
For the sake of this article, we figured we’d bring you who we consider at present to be the five top contenders for the remaining spot. Our sentiment is that it should be an act with a certain degree of variety to it, and they had to at least give a solid performance in the last live show.
Hara – In going back to the first live performance show, there were some disappointed to see him go. Ultimately, we think he was hurt by performing early, and his visual stunt probably played better in the room than at home. He’s worthy of another shot, but there are already a wide array of magic acts in the next round.
The Passing Zone – Brilliant, funny jugglers. Their biggest error was probably performing a very similar act to what they did near the end of season 1. We do think they have a lot to offer in a return, but you could argue that they’ve now had two different shots at the title.
ThroWings – What they do is enormously impressive, and the acrobats came close to making it to the next round on their show. Their issue in turn is whether or not Simon Cowell’s words about them having a relatively similar act every time come back to bite them. (Personally, we don’t mind.)
Ryan Stock and AmberLynn – We’re of two minds on this one. Emotionally, it’d be a really cool story to see them come out and perform something that goes off as intended. Yet, if another act made a mistake (even if it was due to no fault of their own), would you want them to come back over someone who didn’t? It’s a tricky scenario.
Julia Scotti – Julia probably is our personal pick just because the live shows need more comedy, and she has been consistently the strongest of the group. It’s not lost on us that her comedy is not for everyone and she probably wouldn’t advance, but it’s hard to imagine any wildcard at this point getting that sort of bump. Then again, Steven Brundage is back after being a wildcard in his own right.
