‘Criminal Minds’ season 12 spoilers: New characters coming after Thomas Gibson’s exit

The moment that Thomas Gibson departed “Criminal Minds,” it felt fairly  clear that the show would be looking to hire some new performers. After all, it’s one of the only things that made sense in the context of losing Thomas Gibson. The show needs to fill that void in the cast, mostly because you cannot overwork the current players and also because you want to bring some positive buzz to the series.

While nothing is confirmed as of yet, TVLine reports that there are two new characters who are going to be coming aboard the CBS show. One of them could end up being the new team leader, and personally that is somewhat of a bummer since we’d almost prefer a current character to take that spot instead.

Nonetheless, we’re curious to see how the show will press onward, and if these characters plus Adam Rodriguez will be enough to keep people invested. The reality is that the series is in a rather-tricky spot at the moment, and the same goes for another ratings titan in CBS. This fall could be one of the most important stretches that the network has had in some time, since they’re at risk of losing viewers due to all of the changes. We do appreciate the other cast members, so we’re interested in seeing what the newcomers bring to the table. Sometimes change can lead to interesting dynamics, even if it is scary or nerve-wrecking going into it.
