‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7, episode 11 review: Jane, Maura talk the future as Frankie, Nina cement theirs

What happens when two friends potentially prepare to go separate ways? While the photo above may be somewhat of an extreme example of what the future for the title characters of “Rizzoli & Isles” should be, almost every fan out there wants to see the two characters still a part of each other’s lives.

With that, there was some emotion heard all around the world when Maura told Jane that she doesn’t know what she is going to do without her around. It speaks to their closeness, and it was a concern that was echoed elsewhere as more and more characters started to learn about her new gig over at Quantico. We do like that this is something that the writers did not spring on anyone at the last second; just as it would be life, this is giving Jane the opportunity to let everyone get used to the idea before it actually comes to fruition. Even Angela struggled with it upon first being told; she wants Jane to be safe, but all the way in Washington? That’s a little more to ask.

The case in the episode was a bizarre-but-interesting one that had a few twists in the end, but showed Rizzoli eventually doing one of her signature moves: Chasing after the victim before tackling them and getting them in cuffs. We also saw in here precisely what a brother would do in order to protect his sister.

Overall, we’d consider this episode to be an important one in starting to frame the endgame of the series, whether it be some of the characters realizing that Jane isn’t that far away, and Frankie and Nina REALLY cementing their future. They’re engaged! As sad as it may be to see these characters all move on, what’s important is that we do feel like these characters are all going to be happy in the end. This isn’t the sort of show that would try to frame a series finale in a different way. Grade: B.
