‘Ink Master’ season 8 premiere video: About the ‘tattoo marathon’
If you find yourself eagerly awaiting the premiere of “Ink Master” on Tuesday night, here’s the great news: The wait is almost over!
When the show does pick up, know that we’re going to have a very different canvas (pun intended) than what we’re used to seeing on the show. For one, we’re starting off with a whopping 30 artists! Eventually the field is going to be narrowed down to just 18 thanks to some challenges, and the tattoo marathon below will separate those with experience from those who just aren’t ready yet to handle the rigors of this competition. And trust us when we say this is a competition like no other – it is grueling and over the past 7 seasons we have seen many artists crack under the pressure.
The task in this premiere is simple: Complete as many successful small American traditional tattoos that you can over the course of five hours. This is Oliver Peck’s specialty, so he will be largely responsible for determining your fate. Given that this season is themed around Peck versus Chris Nunez, we’re certainly curious to see if he’s going to have a chance to call some of his own shots — which could mean something Japanese-themed given that this is one of his own specialties.
The Peck vs. Nunez theme is the part of this that could take some getting used to, given that we’re not accustomed to this show looking or feeling like “The Voice.” In terms of the mass elimination right out of the gate, there is a precedent of it on “Top Chef” and some other reality shows, so we know that it can work. it will just be hard to watch since there are twelve possibly-wonderful personalities you are not getting the chance to know. Some of the best castings could disappear into the wind without much attention at all.
