‘The Originals’ season 4 and the Klaus / Marcel dynamic ahead

Originals -At the end of “The Originals” season 3, Klaus met an end that can be described as terrible and then some. How else do you describe being locked away for a good five years? These are years that he missed his daughter Hope growing up, and he also failed to have an opportunity to see the remainder of his family. It’s a hard situation even for an immortal vampire, given that we’re sure that the concept of time means something to you. Sure, you do have an opportunity to live thousands of additional years, but maybe these years are the ones you would cherish the most.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec specifically makes it clear that it will be his feelings towards Marcel that complicate his emotional head-space when he returns. While he may be frustrated over what has transpired between the two, at the same time he owes a certain something to his one-time friend. Finding a way to balance out those emotions could be a difficult task:

“The indignity of Klaus Mikaelson’s situation the last five years [is being] held captive by his surrogate son and forced to be an advisor to a king that he does not recognize. Also, [he knows] Marcel is actually singularly responsible for the fact he’s alive, because so many people have come to town in the last five years desperate to see him reduced to ash.”

Thanks to this, Klaus cannot quite be desperate to see Marcel gone from the world. After all, there is a certain part of him that still could benefit from his presence, and that is something to look at as we get closer and closer to the premiere … which unfortunately is a long ways away. “The Originals” was not on the midseason schedule, and it could be 2017 when the series actually comes back.
