‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: Here’s your first look at Lynda Carter

Kara -

Supergirl” knows how to pay tribute to many longtime fans of superheroes on television; then again, you could say the same thing about the entire Greg Berlanti universe on The CW. We’ve got John Wesley Shipp over on “The Flash,” and now former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter is joining Dean Cain and others on this show … and we’ve got your first look at it below!

Series star Melissa Benoist was the first to share a photo of herself with Carter on her Instagram page, and it’s pretty awesome — possibly even more so when you think for a minute about who Carter is playing: The President of the United States. Yes, it’s an election year and we’ve all spent weeks feverishly debating this policy or that policy; we don’t think “Supergirl” is going to get into this Prez’s viewpoint on things such as immigration and helping the poor. This is a show about unity, and Supergirl and her could team up to ensure the safety of the country.

No matter how much we see of Carter, or even how much we love her character, this still feels almost other-worldly to us to get this sort of reunion out there. It’s cool for Carter to be reminding us of her own roots, and at the same time it makes us wonder whether or not Wonder Woman / Wonder Girl / someone from this particular comic branch could be added to the show. We know that DC Comics has had somewhat of a stranglehold on these characters over on the big screen, but without being too skewering here, have they really done too many of them justice to date? (“Dawn of Justice” pun included.) To be fair, Wonder Woman and Batman are probably the two characters who’ve been the best per their presentation to date.

Savor the photo, and prepare for more high-flying “Supergirl” scoop moving into this fall. As per usual, the link here is your resource for the latest!
