‘I Am Cait’ canceled by E! after two seasons

While “I Am Cait” may have gotten off to a tremendous ratings start on E! back at the start of the first season, it clearly could not sustain that level of buzz in the long-term.

In a post on Twitter, Caitlyn Jenner herself confirmed that the series would be coming to a close, thanking the network while saying that “it’s time for the next adventure.” She certainly doesn’t seem bitter about the show’s end, even if it was an enjoyable experience for her that showed off a facet of transgender life that wasn’t present in many places on TV beforehand.

Given the nature of the Kardashian empire on E! as a whole, we have a hard time imagining that this is the last you will see of Jenner on television. Yet, at the same time what made her show different than anything featuring the likes of Kim or Khloe is that it presented a different angle than anything else you’re going to see in the genre. What makes reality TV so interesting as a genre is getting a chance to see how people live who are very different from yourself, or at least different from the other people who are featured on television. At this point, there are so many Kardashian clones (or klones?) that we don’t think there is much of interest in those shows anymore. Then again, we were never much of the target demo for them in the first place.

“I Am Cait” first started to great ratings and acclaim following a notable TV interview featuring Jenner, and her Vanity Fair cover that came after her announcing that she was transgender.
