‘Power’ season 3, episode 5: Lucy Walters on shocking character death
If you’re a regular “Power” viewer, odds are that you’re still reeling in some way from what you saw on Sunday night. We do know that this is a show and a world where death can happen, but it’s still rather different when you are talking about someone you thought would be a part of the show for the long haul. Holly was one of those characters, given that she’d shown herself to be aggressive, savvy, and willing to do whatever she could to keep herself alive.
If there is one thing she miscalculated this season, it was the love Tommy still had for Ghost, despite all of the issues in their past. He didn’t intend to kill her after she admitted to hiring someone to take Ghost out, but his rage took over and it was precisely what happened. What makes this even harder moving forward is the inevitable reveal to Tommy that she was pregnant with his child. Tasha knew about it, and we have to assume that this is going to come out.
In speaking on that particular matter to TVLine in a postmortem, Lucy Walters had the following to say:
“The blowback from that is going to be really long and really hard … Say what you will about these two people, but what they had was actually real. Yes, they are two very complicated and very broken people, but it was a real love.”
Walters described playing the part as a “gift,” one that defined expectations for many female roles where she could be liberated into doing a lot of different, exciting things without having to face the pressure to be liked. Hopefully, she can parlay this into something elsewhere down the line.
