‘NCIS’ season 14: Jennifer Esposito on joining ‘well-oiled machine’
It feels like we’ve spent a good bit of time over the past couple of weeks discussing Wilmer Valderrama and his return to “NCIS,” and we haven’t spent enough on another, extremely-notable addition in Jennifer Esposito. Let’s correct that today.
We know that there has been some dissension in the ranks among fans of the show ever since Michael Weatherly left, and we do get that. Part of the reason to watch this show is for the comfort-food of it all. You come home after a busy day, and you want to see familiar faces and a story that you can just relax and enjoy watching. There’s a void without him, and nobody’s trying to fill that.
With that said, we do think there was some general excitement surrounding Esposito’s casting, and for good reason. She was great on “Blue Bloods” and brought a lot to “Mistresses” last season; here, she’s have a new energy to contribute to the cast. We like that her character Alex Quinn is more of an instructor at the time she comes back to the job, and has a unique skill set that could appeal on a social level to being out in the field.
In joining the show, the actress herself noted that there were some nerves, telling E! News that she is cognizant of how much people love this show and, therefore, how much she wants to make sure she does her best job:
“This is more than even a well-oiled machine … People really love this show and it’s so well-known that you really have to go at it with respect, and be respectful of not only the people who’ve been making the show what it is, but the audience.”
We’re confident that she will, and hopefully CBS will feature both her and Valderrama at some point in a promo before the season premieres next month.
