‘Madam Secretary’ season 3 spoilers: First news on upcoming premiere

MadamThe third season of “Madam Secretary” is coming up on CBS this fall, and we know already that Morgan Freeman is directing the premiere episode.

So what else do we know? The network released some additional details on Wednesday, and it suggests that there could be some major snags in Elizabeth’s decision as to whether or not to become Dalton’s Vice-Presidential candidate. After all, there could be some other issues that surface as a distraction. CBS teases that a shift in foreign policy could end up putting the re-election campaign in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, there is also some family drama ahead for Tea Leoni’s character as Bess and Henry also have to worry about whether or not their family is the target of a stalker. The suspicion begins courtesy of some incidents involving Jason, and we will see where things go from here.

In general, we would be surprised if the majority of the storylines in the premiere are resolved by the time it ends, if for no other reason than that there’s no reason to tie things up. This is a long season, and one that should allow a wide array of other opportunities for the story to twist and turn itself. Also, we expect the re-election story to at least in some way mirror what is happening in the present-day news cycle, at least in terms of timing. Why would the show choose to end this before we get around at least to the November sweeps?
