‘Empire’ season 3 spin-off possible, but not confirmed

Empire -At this point in time, we’re fairly sure that Fox would do virtually anything that they possibly could in order to get more “Empire” on the air, and could you really blame them? This show has been a scripted revolution for them, and has legitimized their lineup at a time when “American Idol” was ending and they had no other hits on the air. It’s brought ratings to other shows, but the big problem with it is that it’s a show that is tough to keep around for longer than 18 episodes because of its production demands.

Speaking per TV Guide while at TCA this week, executive producer Ilene Chaiken does make it clear that there have been conversations, saying that “there are potential spin-offs with Lucious and Cookie’s characters, sure.” We also figure that the chance is there to bring someone new into the fold who, at some point down the road, could become a perfect contender for a spin-off in their own right. This is what so many different shows do at this point.

Ultimately, we figure that the challenge here comes in finding the right time, and looking like you’re not just trying to exploit viewers for easy ratings. After all, there are so many spin-offs out there that could have gone south if they were rushed, and if the wrong people were involved. (The ones that meet those qualifications are mostly off the air at this point.)

The third season of “Empire” will be premiering on Fox this fall.
