‘Empire’ season 3 spin-off possible, but not confirmed
Speaking per TV Guide while at TCA this week, executive producer Ilene Chaiken does make it clear that there have been conversations, saying that “there are potential spin-offs with Lucious and Cookie’s characters, sure.” We also figure that the chance is there to bring someone new into the fold who, at some point down the road, could become a perfect contender for a spin-off in their own right. This is what so many different shows do at this point.
Ultimately, we figure that the challenge here comes in finding the right time, and looking like you’re not just trying to exploit viewers for easy ratings. After all, there are so many spin-offs out there that could have gone south if they were rushed, and if the wrong people were involved. (The ones that meet those qualifications are mostly off the air at this point.)
The third season of “Empire” will be premiering on Fox this fall.

As long as Empire remains on the air, I’m not sure we need a prequel/spinoff featuring those two characters since they are such a large force in the mothership as it is. On the other hand, a show that is a bit calmer and more focused on a single band or singer as they navigate road tours and studio BS, with a handful of Empire characters doing cameos on the periphery, might be a better way to go.
