‘Animal Kingdom’ season 2: Premiere date speculation and more for TNT drama

At the time in which you are reading this, the “Animal Kingdom” finale on TNT has come and gone. There were surprises, character exits, and much more over the course of the hour — but we know at the very least, it is only the halfway point of this story.

Earlier this year, the network opted to greenlight the series for a second season, a move that doesn’t come as much of a shock. If a network believes in a series, odds are that they will be willing to give it a second kick at the can even if the ratings aren’t great. Take a look at AMC and “Halt and Catch Fire,” or even The CW with “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which is near the bottom of their shows in terms of ratings.

When you compare “Animal Kingdom” numbers to some other shows that are out there, it’s fairly solid when it comes to this low-rated summer. Its averaging around a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a better number that cable shows like “Devious Maids” or “UnREAL.” Heck, it’s doing almost as well as “BrainDead” over on CBS. What’s especially remarkable about the show is that the ratings have remained constant almost the entire season, and there has been very little fluctuation despite all of the moving and shaking that has gone on this summer.

Rest assured that there will be further opportunities over the weeks ahead to discuss the future of the series. Stay tuned, as we’re planning to have coverage all about the future in due time!
