TV Friendships: On ‘Gotham’ season 3 and the path for Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock

Jim -We’re a fan of the Jim – Harvey friendship on “Gotham” for a variety of different reasons, but one of the major ones is that these are two guys who openly speak about being friends at times outside of work. Harvey’s got that demeanor necessary to bring out the best in his often-partner, and in return Jim pushes him to be the best that he can possibly be. Judging that Harvey has now served as Captain, it’s clear that this responsibility has in many ways propelled him.

So where could these two go moving forward in terms of their relationship? That is something we’re happy to spotlight further in today’s edition of our TV Friendships series.

Where we left off – During the “Gotham” finale there was a lot of chaos unfolding across the city thanks to everything from Hugo Strange’s various experiments gone awry to the independent actions of some other villains in the city. Gordon made the choice to leave to find Lee Thompkins, He and Bullock had a chance to talk before his exit, and while Harvey seemed to wish him well, we gotta think there was a better time to take off beyond when the city appears to be caving in upon itself.

Where we go from here – For these two, we’d like to have them back doing a little more of what they’re great at, and that is working together to help stop some of the problems of the city. While we’d argue that most of season 2 was better than season 1, Donal Logue was sidelined a little bit more than we would like. We’d also like to see more of Bullock being the hero and putting his own skills to work, especially in terms of the great social connections and network that he has across the city. It’s important at this point to remind Jim of his ultimate value to this world.
