‘Doctor Who’ season 10: ‘Versailles’ actor jokingly campaigning for lead role

Doctor Who -Let’s once again make it clear to kick off this “Doctor Who” article that, at least for now, there are no plans for Peter Capaldi to leave the series.  Steven Moffat has suggested that he could stay on past season 10, but there’s nothing definitive on that just yet.

What we do know is that there are plenty of people who would love the part, with “Versailles” actor Alexander Vlahos being one of them. Speaking to Digital Spy, he joked that there is already a campaign to get him the Doctor role:

“I know they’re filming series 10 now – so maybe they’re holding back because they’re waiting for Peter to go and they want me to get the Doctor part? That’s what I’m telling myself, that’s why I haven’t had a phone call! … The hashtag #VlahosForWho is what I’m trying to get going. What’s funny is that I’ve met Andy [Pryor, the show’s casting director] before – for Atlantis, when he was casting that show.”

Of course, the reason we mention that these comments were made lightheartedly is because we know how the internet works — and of course Vlahos and many others will like the part. It’s much too early to start the speculation on future Doctors, but we will say this: We’d much rather have someone enthusiastic about the gig than someone who is not really that familiar about the franchise, given that they are both actors of equal caliber and are both right for the role.
