Taye Diggs is going to be coming to “Empire” season 3 as a political figure named Angelo Dubois, and we know that he has a lot of ambition and also local influence. What’s next? Apparently, he is also going to be a potential love interest for Cookie … or at least he’d like to be.
Speaking per TVLine while at the TCA Summer Press Tour this week, show executive producer Ilene Chaiken made it clear that “his story is all about Cookie,” stating that it “starts as a Jamal story and then intersects” with Taraji P. Henson’s character. While this may not be the most robust amount of information we’ve ever received, at the same time we’re certainly not going to be upset about getting to see Diggs on this show. He’s great on “Murder in the First,” and of course he was excellent before that on “Private Practice.”
We also know that Diggs is one of many notable guest stars popping by this season. Kid Cudi has been cast as a rival to the Hakeem Lyon character already, and Mariah Carey has now been confirmed to appear (fittingly) as a pop star on the show moving forward.
Ultimately, there’s a good bit to be excited about with season 3, and as of right now one of our largest questions is just if the show can continue the momentum and trajectory that’s got it to this point. It has been a huge ratings sensation, but can it maintain that consistency after the initial hype fades? We’ll find out soon enough…
