Fox boss on ‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4 renewal, ‘hard conversation’

The fourth season of “Sleepy Hollow” is coming to Fox at some point over the coming season, but this was not a decision that the network made easily. Given the exit of original series star Nicole Beharie (and the subsequent criticism that came as a result of that), there was a chance that executives could determine that this was a series not necessarily worth the trouble anymore.

Yet, the show eventually received a fourth season, and with that Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is heading to Washington for what is going to be a very different (and hopefully fun) new edition of the franchise. Speaking on this decision at the TCA Summer Press Tour (per TVLine), Fox entertainment president David Madden made it clear that it “was obviously a very hard conversation” to bring the show back, adding that “Crane and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out of it was right thing to do, to continue or not.”

In the end, Madden claimed that the idea for the fourth season is the reason why we’re getting more of the show, which has an immense challenge ahead of it. It could ultimately turn out to be incredibly entertaining, but will the viewers be there to see it? Are there going to be some people too turned off by what happened the last time? We’re a big believer in giving shows a chance, but with this series in particular it has had several of them.
