Is ‘Preacher’ new tonight on AMC? Show boss on season 2 trajectory
It’s been an eventful (and certainly explosive) season of “Preacher” on AMC, but we have officially reached the end of the road. Last week was the season finale, and there is no new episode tonight. As a matter of fact, there is no new episode coming at any point this year.
Given what happened during the finale, it’s hard to imagine there being a bigger or cooler way for the show to go out than the epic explosion we bore witness to. So many characters are gone, but there will be many more to come. In speaking on the decision to wipe so many off the map at the end of the first season, executive producer Sam Catlin recently told Deadline the following:
“In the end, we had to clear the deck, there’s so many great characters from the comic to come … In the first season we really wanted to establish Jesse’s relationship to God and lack thereof. He is disillusioned and losing his congregation from the beginning. We needed to put Jesse’s journey into context, and his mission for next season.”
There are many familiar characters from the comics in season 2, including one that you may have even gotten a brief glimpse at over the course of this first season. You’re also going to have more of the story in general, as the second season is slated to run for 13 episodes as opposed to the ten this summer. Given that there will be many months in between now and the new season premieres, we are very much interested in seeing if there are many new viewers who catch up before the premiere.
