Amazon sets ‘Transparent’ season 3, ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ ‘Man in the High Castle,’ other premiere dates

Amazon made a presentation this morning while at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, and there were a number of relevant premiere dates in particular that you are going to want to remember.

Let’s start on the comedy front. The third season of “Transparent,” which continues to be critically acclaimed even if some of the awards-show fire has started to quiet, will launch come September 23. Meanwhile, “Mozart in the Jungle” will return on December 9 in an effort to score some more love following its Golden Globe win.

On the drama front, look out for the third season of “The Man in the High Castle” on December 16.

Why give us premiere dates in December? We think it’s incredibly smart from an Amazon point of view for two separate reasons.

  1. Counter-programming – Remember here that many other network shows are off the air around this time, and with many people getting time off from work or college students being out of class, they’ll have a little more time to binge and talk about these shows without so much competition.
  2. More potential viewers – Think about it. Many people buy Amazon Prime for the free shipping, and there is no better time to get it than during the holiday season. If you can convert some of these seasonal users into more permanent fixtures thanks to your lineup of shows, you may as well give that a try.

Meanwhile, Amazon also announced that their previously-announced collaboration with Woody Allen will be entitled “Crisis in Six Scenes” and will start September 30. Allen will star alongside Miley Cyrus.
